I recently learned about this site from a group on FACEBBOK and shared it with my 4th grader.   She loves it.  We did the spelling test on pets.  It is pretty neat as it calls out the words and then teaches the ones that are missed.  She missed 2 out of 12.

Here is the link to matching correct sentences

Is it something that we should be concerned about?  Why DO U think so few African Americans complete college vs. Asian or White Americans?  Maybe the cycle can be broken if more children are told to go to college at an earlier age?  For a person to make a strategic CHOICE what to DO or not TO DO for their life is a good thing. Can we give a child direction and equip them with precious experiences, exposure and options?   is what HBCU kidz, Inc. advocate for 200,000 FUTURE DREAMERS, LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS.

We should be able to WALK and CHEW gum at the same time.

FREEDOM IS A CHOICE IN THE 21st CENTURY. WE CAN DEO THIS!

Every year about this time Jackie Payne and NMP Information Services does an outstanding job in providing a one stop website for creative holiday shopping ideas.  This year is no exception to the rule of thumb.

How DO we engage and inspire our FUTURE DREAMERS, LEADERS and ACHIEVERS to read more?
    KIDDY BOOK CLUBS!

Special thanks to awesome mom T. Cody and her inspiring daughter J. Cody for getting one started where they live.

This post is dedicated to their initiative!

We would love to share any and all helpful or useful tips and ideas to get a book club started for our youth.

Our church launched one last year with great success!  100% of our participants passed their NCLB READING TESTS and they also had fun participating.  We can call it success also by the level of enthusiasm shown in completing their book reports!

Here are some books that we use for ours at Immanuel Baptist Church Tutoring Program.  http://www.hbcukids.com/IBCTutor7.html

    HOW THE BOOK CLUB WORKED
The children read for 15=30 minutes to one another and/or to an adult.  Then to check for comprehension they complete a book report.  There are prizes awarded for the MOST COMPLETE and they also are rewarded for being able to discuss in the group what they wrote!  Bulk books are best so that each child can be reading the SAME book, but if it is not possible, each child should have their OWN book based upon their interest in the subject.

They read aloud their book reports and have a nice discussion based on what they wrote ...did they like it? what was it about? who is the main character? do they recommend it to others? do they want it as their own book? etc.

The example below is taken from our actual program by a 3rd grade student. We do NOT drill them on penmanship nor spelling on these.  It is NOT school work.  We are trying to make it FUN.

We have on this site a list of "original authored/focused" books by age group.  Feel free to use this as a tool to inspire creativity from FUTURE DREAMERS, LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS!

The kids in your club could simply generate 7-10 questions that they want to know about each book.  The club could just create their own little club sheet and criteria for success that they use for their reading pleasure!

If you would like to share your form with others, please email it to info@originalauthors.us and we will scan and  post the formats here!  Our goal is to show that EVERYONE can strive TO DO something that promotes literacy!
